Night 1 - Jochem le Cointre's Opera - Steppenwolf

  • Tishman Auditorium, New School University Center 63 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

I'm absolutely honored to have the position of percussionist in Jochem le Cointre's Senior Recital and Opera - Steppenwolf. Jochem is an incredible composer, arranger and pianist from Holland who takes the amoebic world, and the sounds it contains, and crafts it into a unique sculpture that dares stand out. This is the debut performance! Do not miss it!

Some words about his Opera -

"I'm very happy to announce a new art-project I will present this coming year (May '16) in New York City!

As this is my final year at the New School in New York, I am writing and producing my first musical-opera.
This opera is a culmination of music, song, dance and theater and revolves around one of the most
exciting and controversial novels of our time: STEPPENWOLF

“I might be a beast astray, with no sense of its environment, yet there was some meaning in my foolish life, something in me gave an answer and was the receiver of those distant calls from worlds far above…”- Hermann Hesse (1877-1962)

Ever since I got to know Hermann Hesse (through my mom's Hesse-books from the seventies) I have cherished his work and read everything I could get my hands on. He has been a guru to many generations of readers and thinkers and still today his confronting free spirit has a big impact on the youth.
With this musical-opera I hope to showcase the big themes of Hesse's work and shine a light on the place of beauty and art in our daily life: “Ah, but it is hard to find this track of the divine in the midst of this life we lead.”

The performances of this project will take place on Wednesday 11th of May 2016 and Thursday 12th of May 2016, at Old Tishman Hall on 12th street Manhattan(between 5th and 6th ave.) Together with a Production Team and fellow New York artists, I will collaborate in order to create and stage this work successfully. Set- and costume-designers are involved and it promises to be a very exciting show!" - Jochem le Cointre
